Thesis Supervision and Generative AI
The use of generative AI applications by students during thesis writing presents new challenges for supervision. Supervisors often work with several students at once and are not always aware of how students approach thesis work. The use of generative AI models can make it even more difficult to understand how students are engaging with key parts of the process, such as developing research problems, identifying and reading sources, and writing their texts. This seminar supports thesis supervisors in responding to these developments. We will begin with an overview of relevant research on generative AI in higher education, examine how and why students typically use generative AI, and discuss supervision strategies. (The seminar is held in English.)
