Clipchamp – record and edit videos in Microsoft 365

Clipchamp can be used to create instructional videos, presentations, and other short videos. The tool is available to all GU employees. This page provides support for getting started with recording and editing. You will also find information on how to publish your finished video in GU Play.

What is Clipchamp?

Clipchamp is Microsoft’s web-based video tool, included in Microsoft 365 and available to employees at the University of Gothenburg. It runs directly in your web browser and does not require installation.

Note: At present, Clipchamp works fully only in the Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome web browsers.

Suitable for teaching

Clipchamp is especially useful for:

  • Short instructional videos
  • Introductions to course components
  • Explanations of key concepts
  • Visual explanations of models and processes
  • Presentation videos (screen + camera)
  • Video feedback and video summaries

Getting started

Go to: Clipchamp

Do the following:

  1. Sign in with your GU account.
  2. To create a new project, select Upload video, Screen recording or Webcam recording.
  3. If you choose Screen recording or Webcam recording, you must allow access to your camera and microphone.

Record – screen, camera, or both

In Clipchamp you can record:

  • Screen recording.
  • Webcam recording.
  • Screen and camera. (If you want to record both your screen and camera, select Screen recording.)

Edit

Under the “Video project” option, you can edit what you have recorded. You can, for example:

  • Trim parts at the beginning, middle, and end
  • Split clips
  • Add text and titles
  • Insert images, graphics, and logos
  • Adjust audio levels and add fade-ins/fade-outs
  • Combine multiple video tracks

The interface is drag-and-drop and easy to learn, even for beginners.

Export

When your video is ready:

  1. Click "Export".
  2. Choose 1080p (recommended).
  3. Save locally or save to OneDrive. 

Exports are created as an MP4 video file. The exported file works directly in GU Play.
