Creating videos for teaching

This page provides information and practical advice for staff who want to use video in their teaching. It explains how to record, edit and publish educational videos using tools available to all University of Gothenburg staff. You are welcome to contact us for guidance and support.

Why use video in teaching?

  • Students are used to engaging with visual content, from instructional videos to digital lectures. Moving images have become a natural part of how many people learn, review and deepen their understanding of course material. For many students, video offers a flexible way to engage with content: they can pause, rewatch or go directly to the parts they need to focus on.
  • Video can also help make teaching more varied, which can support learning. A short, clearly structured video can, for example, help students build prior knowledge before seminars and practical exercises. Moving images can also complement texts and lectures by visualising processes, showing examples or making abstract concepts more concrete.
  • Today, it is technically easy to get started with video production, even without previous experience. With tools such as Zoom, Clipchamp or PowerPoint, you can create simple but pedagogically effective videos with limited resources and in a short amount of time.
